Recreation centers, museums, libraries, churches, theatres, and colleges/universities are examples of local venues used as GCF classrooms. Campus participants engage as active members of their community through teaching, learning, and community service. Community members are invited to participate at campuses as co-faculty, students, faculty, and resource persons.

A commitment to community building is an essential piece of the GCF model. All campuses use their community venues as meeting places for teaching and for community service projects. Not only do the participants engage and lead in building their campus community of peers, they also reach out to their respective communities to teach and learn in local venues, to invite guest presenters and team teachers, and to provide community service. This collaborative work of GCF strengthens rural communities by improving the quality of life for their vulnerable neighbors and promoting greater diversity and equity in community life.
